- Road Vehicle-Kilometres Travelled Estimated from State/Territory Fuel Sales
This report describes an overview of the different patterns of traffic growth in Australia's states and capital cities and their determinants. Understanding the determinants of past and likely future traffic growth is important for understanding the needs for infrastructure investment, for congestion amelioration, for the road safety task and for many other trends that concern governments and citizens.

Traffic Growth: Modelling a Global Phenomenon
This report describes an overview of the different patterns of traffic growth in 25 Countries, and their determinants. There is a remarkable commonality in these determinants, but the variety of their operations has generated an amazing variety of traffic growth patterns. Understanding the determinants of past and likely future traffic growth is important to understand the needs for infrastructure investment, for congestion amelioration, for the road safety task and many other trends that concern governments and citizens in all the 25 countries.

Evaluation of the National Black Spot Program—Volume 1, 2 and 3
This evaluation covered 1599 black spot projects, 62% of the 2578 Australian Government funded black spot projects approved during the seven-year period 1996–97 to 2002–03 and completed.
The national Black Spot Program is estimated to be reducing fatal and casualty crashes in total at treated sites by 30% and property damage only (PDO) crashes by 26%.

Assessment of Investment in Urban Public Transport 1977–78 to 1979–80
This is the fourth Report by the BTE on capital investment in urban public transport. It differs from previous Reports produced in that it presents an estimate of economically warranted investment for the period 1977–78 to 1979–80 rather than an evaluation of a specific program of projects put forward by State Authorities.

Road User Charges: Theories and Possibilities
Considerable disagreement exists on an appropriate system of road user charges and road investment policies. While some work in this important area of resourse allocation has been done in other countries, until recently little investigatory research has been carried out in Australia. This study considers all roads other than access roads with the essential objective being to show up the deficiencies in the cost responsibility approach to road pricing by emphasising the joint cost characteristics of roads. The approach of the study team has been to derive a reasonable set of relative road pricing strategies, given the cost of supplying the road network, based on the demand characteristics of road users.

Urban Transport: Capital Requirements 1977–78 to 1979–80
This is the fourth report prepared by the BTE on capital investment needs of transport in urban areas. It differs in a number of important respects from the earlier reports in that it deals with investment needs for roads as well as for public transport; it analyses the demand for and supply of urban transport as a whole rather than simply presenting the results of evaluations of specific capital investment proposals; and the report includes some consideration of urban areas outside the State capital cities.

Eastern By-Pass Routes for Launceston: Evaluation
In April, 1976, the Minister for Transport, requested the Commonwealth Bureau of Roads to report on "the justification and timing for the construction of an Eastern by-pass of Launceston, including the question of whether such a bypass would warrant inclusion in the Declared National Highway System". After identifying the most desirable of a number of alternative Eastern by-pass routes, the report states that at this time there is no economic warrant for an Eastern by-pass.
