About Us
For decades the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) and the Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR) have delivered trusted statistics, research and data analysis to support Australian Government policy and evidence-based policy design, program delivery and regulation across the department's portfolio. The activities also support wider community and stakeholder understanding.
Our economists, statisticians, modellers, social researchers and data analysts gather, hold and produce information unique to various sectors within the portfolio, including aviation, maritime, road, rail, communications and the arts. We regularly publish the results of individual research projects with current and historical products, reports, statistics and data on this site.
We play a critical role in supporting researchers, decisionmakers, and industry leaders in their work by providing sound statistical and economic evidence to shape public discourse and improve services to Australians living in cities and regional communities.
