Australian maritime trade: 2000–01 to 2004–05 extends data available through the BTRE's Australian Sea Freight publications by including information on markets, shipping lanes, key trade routes, traded commodities and passenger services associated with Australia's maritime trade.

BITRE undertook this study at the request of the Australian Maritime Group (AMG) a senior officer advisory committee with representatives from state governments and the Commonwealth Government. The aim of the study is to provide a better understanding of the productivity and competitiveness of Australia's container ports.

This report presents forecasts of maritime activity in Australian ports to 2029–30. This includes imports and exports of containerised and non-containerised freight, coastal freight movements, temporary arrivals and departures of passengers by sea, and vessel activity.
