Guest Seminar: When to invest in High Speed Railways
Professor Chris Nash is a leading British transport specialist, from the Institute for Transport Studies (based at the University of Leeds). Professor Nash leads research in railway policy and transport infrastructure, with extensive experience in road pricing, rail franchising and privatisation. He has led many transport projects for both the British government and the European Commission. He is an expert witness to British select committees on the European Union and transport. He has worked on rail investment policy and the social costs of transport for the Chinese Ministry of Railways and for the World Bank.
Professor Nash is currently advising Network Rail (the railway track owner in Great Britain) on their study of the potential for High Speed Rail for that country.
In that context, Professor Nash provided insights into the factors that governments have considered when assessing the case for building high speed railways.
