The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) undertakes applied economic research and statistical collation to support policy development by the Australian Government relating to infrastructure, transport, cities, regional development and local government.

In 2009-10 BITRE is undertaking research projects in the following areas:
• Infrastructure Investment
• Regulatory reform and pricing
• Road Safety
• City and corridor planning
• Forecasting.

BITRE also produces a range of regular statistics relating to:
• Infrastructure
• Aviation
• Maritime
• Rail
• Road
• Cities and regions.
